Gwen Condon is the owner/operator of Garden Gate Nursery, the garden center she opened in 1995 in response to a void in the retail garden market. With the belief that garden centers must be more attentive to fashion and trend, she focuses on creating an outdoor living space that is functional and beautiful with both contemporary and classic pieces.
Gwen has been a pioneer in the retail garden center in the Lake Country area. By traveling abroad and attending shows in the European market, she stays abreast of trends in the garden industry. She has purchased from vendors in Germany, England and Italy offering her staff and customers the opportunity to experience the latest product introductions. Hence the staff members at Garden Gate pride themselves with being the “first on the block” to offer the customer the best service, information, and product mix our industry has to offer.
Gwen has been involved in the community on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and as an active member of the Lake Country Rotary for over ten years. She has chaired and worked on a number of committees for Rotary events that have been successful fundraisers for various local causes.
The Condon family housed students from Germany, Spain and Brazil through the Friendship Connection and the Rotary Exchange. They have enjoyed the international connection and have lasting relationships with the students.
Gwen received her B. S. in genetics from the College of Agriculture, University of Wisconsin, Madison, and is also a licensed real estate broker. She was instrumental in developing her husband’s medical practice in the Waukesha area. He is board certified surgeon specializing in otolaryngology, and early-on she greeted patients, gathered the necessary paperwork, filed claims and developed relationships with insurance companies in the wake of a changing health care industry.
Gwen, Ken, and their four children enjoy many outdoor activities--especially when they have time to spend a weekend out on the lake or hitting the trails up north. |
